The Satyam stocks rose exponentially, with most analysts terming the news that the operating margin is much higher than expected with a lot of surprise. This is something that most of us in the company already knew. Of course, poor hapless and broke Satyamites like myself did not invest in the stock and are really feeling left out now - both from the job and the stock market rally.
Lets just hope that someone admits to a scam again and we guys can make our moolah before we are kicked out of Satyam. In the meanwhile, there is appraisal time at Satyam and even though there is no salary hike happening this time around, the RMs - Reporting Managers have suddenly turned stingy in their ratings. Dumb fellas would have been so much better off being stingy the last time around, it would have saved a lot of money for the company.
Meanwhile there is a controversial mail doing the rounds at Satyam in which a Satyam employee has asked all the Senior VPs as to why they have been elevated to VP status in Satyam during this appraisal which comes at a time when large scale layoffs are imminent in the company. Will try and publish that mail soon.

Satyam @Tech Mahindra
It is such a conundrum for the owners that there is no way out of this one for them. Tech Mahindra, which probably has one of the worst HR records amongst Indian IT companies, is offering sabbaticals – not layoffs. Tech Mahindra employees are given two months’ salary and dumped unceremoniously, but Satyamites are given sabbaticals. Thanks to the immature Indian media. Their ignorance is a boon to all of us Satyamites.
Currently there are various integration problems that are going on at Satyam. But it has been heard from reliable sources that the pool of top leaders to be retained in Satyam is going to be increased up to 500 from 100. This is very good news for Satyamites. This means that their interests will be taken care of to an extent by these 500 seniors. This means that all those contacts they have nurtured over the years are going to be of some help to them in their hour of crisis. This also means that Tech Mahindra is going soft and slow in the takeover and is more interested in winning over the confidence of Satyamites, rather than trying to bulldoze opposition.
Rumors are flying around thick and fast. But it has been accepted that a virtual pool is going to be made very soon. All those people who are on bench will become a part of this pool. Our unit has been working to try and deploy as many people as possible in a few of the projects that are available.
The problem for a lot of us is that whatever work we have done at Satyam is not going to count in the next company we join as we have not yet really worked with clients. Also, in spite of the fact that we do have jobs and the money is flowing in, there is no guarantee for our futures. It is not just layoffs that we Satyamites are concerned about. This is because we are not working on projects and in spite of all the knowledge we have there is no better way to prove it than by doing work. And the longer we stick to with Satyam without work, the more time we waste. So, Mr. Salman Khurshid, think a little harder and give a solution that lasts. The best one of course is to award a few government contracts to Satyam. Satyam recently lost an Indian Railways bid very narrowly to TCS. A few bids won will help Satyam stay above for a year or two, and then we can start staking claim to be numero uno in India.
Hoping for some concrete changes to come forth soon.

Satyam Lay Offs
It was always in the making. With nearly 50% staff non billable, Satyam cannot ever have enough money to feed all mouths in the company and lay offs are imminent for one and all.
Having been on bench for a long time and having worked alongside a lot of people who are on bench, I have made a strong bond with these people. There are some percentage of people who are just not worthy of being there, especially the regional staff. But other than that, by and large, Satyamites are smart, hard working and intelligent people.
Yet, the controversy, followed by the leaving of clients has created such a state of affairs that such an act is necessitated.
10-12,000 employees are said to be affected. Such a Tsunami of employees is definitely going to affect the Indian BPO sector very badly. Hope the recession doesn't continue too long. Because this huge influx, coupled with the recession might ruin many a career.

Layoffs Imminent at Satyam
Sources inside the company have stated that 15th March has been fixed as the date for laying off a lot of people from Satyam. A lot of the top managers and the staff who has been on bench will be given sabbaticals. This means that they probably will be getting just their basic salary. Wipro has already implemented the same for their "Benched" employees. A lot of the top brass will also be replaced by Tech Mahindra staff, it is believed. The only top leaders who will be spared are the ones who figure in the list of 100 leaders that was given to Tech Mahindra by Satyam.
Satyam computers have an employee management system called as E Support. It is believed that a complete application for managing the benched resources at Satyam has been developed on E Support.

Innovation – a Key Component of our DNA at Satyam
At Satyam, there are three elements that are key constituents of our organizational DNA – our emphasis on keeping success paramount, our ability to innovate, and our capabilities in making ideas work.
Here is one such example of innovation, wherein the Integrated Engineering Services (IES) Team delivered extraordinary results for the customer through innovation.
Read on for the full story.
One day in June 2008, Satyam received a call with a sense of urgency, from one of its largest customers in the business of making self-service products for the banking and retail industry. The clients had just lost a slew of opportunities in India to its competition. The management was certain that the pricing of its products was the primary reason for this.
The company needed help in finding ways to bring down its product cost, and that too prior to its Board meeting in September. Satyam’s IES team quickly swung into action. The task involved a complete teardown of the product, cost analysis of individual parts and value engineering. While the customer was satisfied with the expected and predictable outcomes in sight, Satyam’s team was still not impressed. The primary question in each team member’s mind was – “Is there a smarter design that would make a dramatic difference to
the product cost?” This led to a breakthrough idea, brought about a brand new design, and made the quantum difference that the customer was looking for.
The innovative design concept was appreciated by the client, and not only was it competitive in the domestic market; it also made its mark globally.
That’s innovation at Satyam!
